Over 25 years of proven performance of Bondstrand® Glassfiber Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipe systems for Chevron platforms formerly Unocal 76
November 13, 2009 [Download: FP1017.pdf]
In the early 80ties of the last century, Unocal of the Netherlands built 3 oil production platforms to be placed on the Dutch Continental Shelf: ‘Helm’, ‘Helder’ and ‘Hoorn’. For all these platforms, built at the Heerema yard in Zwijndrecht, Bondstrand® piping was specified for a series of seawater services. The trend to use Glassfiber Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) piping was set a number of years before by Shell Expro and the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM), but at that time most piping systems were executed in conventional steel such as CS-steel, Cunifer, Duplex, 6MO, etc.

Gas Injection platforms (USGIF) using Bondstrand® Glassfiber Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipe systems
June 12, 2009 [Download: FP1011.pdf]
The Umm Shaif Field is located in Abu Dhabi Sector of the Arabian Gulf. Umm Shaif processing facilities are located at one main offshore gathering centre, designated the Umm Shaif Super Complex (USSC). The USGIF project, one of the world’s largest offshore developments, involves the supply and installation of three platforms, subsea pipelines, and modifications to wellhead towers. It also incorporates a compression platform to be located 2 km from the existing Umm Shaif super complex (USSC) and connected to an accommodation platform. The third platform, containing an oil separation unit, will be connected to the existing USSC. Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) was awarded the project by ADMA-OPCO. This is the first phase of a major
re-development of the Umm Shaif Field. The USGIF facilities comprise three new build platforms; a Compression Platform
(CP-1), a Collector Separator Platform (CSP-1) and an Umm Shaif Accommodation Platform (UAP). CSP-1 is linked by bridge to the existing Umm Shaif Super Complex.
Project Management and planned execution is key and differentiates Ameron from other suppliers. Ameron’s on-time delivery systematic spool production enabled HHI to meet the fast track 10-month construction duration of this project.
Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA- OPCO) engages in offshore oil and gas exploration, development and drilling.
It was assigned by its majority shareholder, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, (ADNOC), the responsibility for all offshore drilling and the required logistical support within its concession area of 30,370 km2 and elsewhere. The remaining shareholders are BP, Total and the Japan Oil Development Company. ADMA-OPCO’s concession includes two major fields, Umm Shaif and Zakum, one of the largest oil fields in the world. They are the company’s two main sources of offshore oil drilling. The crude is transferred from these fields to Das Island, the company’s main processing and storage plant, and the first stop in the delivery cycle. Das contains the oil and gas processing, storage and export facilities, utilities, power generation and accommodation sites.

TOTALFINALELF along with other major partners, including Exxon, BP, Statoil and Norsk Hydro used Bondstrand for FPSO vessel
01-12-2002 [Download: FP889.pdf]
To date, FPSO "Girassol" is the largest FPSO in terms of size and working water depth capability. It has a capacity of 343.000 DWT; a storage capacity of 2.000.000 barrels of oil and a processing capability of 200.000 barrels of oil per day. The 30.000 ton topsides have oil processing, gas treatment and re-injection, metering, handling and offloading facilities. The vessel was designed with a hull fatigue life twice that of the anticipated 20-year service life of the Girassol Field, located at 210 km NNE of Luanda, Angola.
Bondstrand piping was used throughout the vessel. Double bottom tanks were piped with Bondstrand 7000M. Both bonded joints and double O-ring expansion couplings were installed and the support system designed to absorb expansion and contraction during operation, as well as movements from the hogging and sagging of the hull. Series 7000M is a robust product, fully able to withstand the external pressure such a system will encounter in the tank bottom. The water injection system piping used Bondstrand 2000M, to provide a cleaner, purer and ion-free fluid. Huge 30-inch suctions draw water directly from the sea to feed large bore piping supplying the cooling water, fire water and water injection systems. Bondstrand 2000M-FP was used for dry deluge applications throughout the vessel. Series 2000M-FP also supplies water to the water curtains, used to protect all critical components on the modules.
Installed systems
- water ballast in tanks
- sea water cooling for all top side modules
- water injection systems
- wet and Dry fire water systems
- raw sea water
- de-mineralized sea water
- drinking water.
With this project, Ameron and this customer have raised the standard of what can be achieved with GRE piping on oil & gas producing vessels. Only by joining in a close, team-work relationship, with a clear objective and understanding of the scope of the work and the strict time frame under which it was to be accomplished, was this possible. Kerr Mc Gee selected Bondstrand 3416 and 2000M for deep draught suction deluge line
01-04-2001 [Download: FP878.pdf]
Bondstrand 3416 and 2000M GRE pipe and fittings with Taper/Taper and Quick-Lock adhesive-bonded joints were installed on the "Janice A" platform. To avoid a build up of algal bloom that had occurred in the pumps due to the preponderance of algae and plankton in the upper surface where the water was being drawn from. The seawater cooling water system on the semi submersible section of the platform was extracted from the upper surface of the ocean through deluge pumps situated at high level on the pontoon. Therefore, it was decided to pump the water from lower depths where there was no algal growth that could be drawn into the pumps. Bondstrand Glassfiber Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipe systems were chosen for their light-weight and ease of installation. Excellent GRE flow characteristics versus metallic options made sure that biological build-up was avoided and operation costs were reduced. Corrosion resistance was obviously an important factor.

GRE pipe systems for fire main, water lines, filtration skids and chlorination lines
01-07-1999 [Download: FP826.pdf]
Bondstrand piping systems were selected because of the corrosive soil conditions on Bonny Island, an offshore platform off the coast of Nigeria. As the platform is situated not far off the coast in rather shallow water with corrosive soil beneath, it was crucial to use light weight and corrosion free materials. Bondstrand Glassfiber Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipe systems were used for fire main, water lines, filtration skids and chlorination lines using Bondstrand pipe and fittings using Key-Lock mechanical joints and Taper/Taper adhesive-bonded joints. The main advantages of Bondstrand GRE pipe systems are that they are light weighted, there is no corrosion and no need for cathodic protection or monitoring.
